Paris Art Hotel | Hotel Le A
One day the artist Fabrice Hybert scribbled an A, and began helplessly laughing …It is the first universal letter and has a nice ring to it, it is the best name for a hotel…and everything started off in the quest for “A”: A for (rue d’) Artois, A pour the Alphabet (26 rooms), A for Art (the hotel is an art gallery) and eventually resulted in the elongated “A” logo resembling the Eiffel Tower: the stamp by which Hotel Le A is recognised.
After many long months of work in 2003, this contemporary luxury hotel finally opened its doors.
The 19th-century façade and glass canopy have been preserved. All the interiors have been remodelled to reveal a large private mansion. Hotel Le A is not merely an hôtel de charme, it is a location that has been designed and built as a genuine townhouse, a place where people live.
The hotel’s fine proportions are the ideal backdrop to unobtrusive, contemporary luxury combining sophistication, elegant simplicity and powerful architecture.
The hotel offers luxury with its own distinctive personality. The overall look was thought up by Frédéric Mechiche, the talented owner, whose work is based on artistic creation. He took the utmost care over the slightest details of colour, materials, light, design and aspects of comfort.
His art is expressed with a certain humour, without restraint and using various mediums: canvas, tapestry, ceramics, lighting, etc. Art is integrated naturally in the hotel through which visitors wander as if they were in a gallery.
26 rooms wreathed in light, all with different names as if they were part of a poem: ”Enfert”, “Peau d’âne”, “tremblement de terre” and “baiser d’arbre”. The letters of the alphabet succeed each other, and your imagination is not far behind. From the double-shaded lobby with its ebony-ivory contrasts, to the library containing 300 art books, to the delicious house cocktail called “Aphrodite”, Hotel Le A is the place to be for art connoisseurs. It would be a pity to miss one of Paris’s most “Arty” venues, wouldn’t it?

Boutique Hotel In Amsterdam | Dylan Hotel
Tucked behind a historical façade right along the canals of the city’s charming center, the Dylan Hotel provides an exclusive gateway to uncovering the hidden treasures of Amsterdam’s past and present.
The history reaches back to 1612, when construction workers began excavating the fifth canal, the “Keizersgracht”. Five years later a doctor, named Samuel Coster, bought this plot of land and a wooden building was constructed. As a man of letters, Doctor Coster was greatly interested in Dutch plays and poetry and he founded a theatre in the building, called the “Duytsche Academie”.
To placate the church authorities, who disapproved of the immoral character of the theatre, it was decided to donate most of the profits to the city's orphanages. In 1632 the architect Jacob van Campen was commissioned to build a stone theatre.
In the following years, many Dutch plays where performed on stage, as well as plays by writers such as Shakespeare, Moliere, Voltaire and Corneille.
On the 100th anniversary of the theatre, in the year 1737, it was Antonio Vivaldi himself who conducted the theatre’s orchestra.
Many well-known guests visited the theatre, including the Prince of Orange, the King of Poland, the Russian Tsar and the Elector of Brandenburg.
Monday, the 11th of May 1772, turned out to be a black day in history. During a performance the building caught fire and completely burned down.
In 1773 the site was sold to one of the Regents of the Roman Catholic Church charities, known as the Old & Poor People’s Office.
This foundation retained ownership until 1998, when the building was completely renovated and reopened as a luxury boutique hotel, in 1999.....more

Design Hotel | The Park Chennai | Chennai India
The Park in Chennai is an urban haven, located on Anna Salai in the heart of the business district of Tamil Nadu's vibrant capital. This elegant and lavish 214-room hotel stands on the historic premises of the erstwhile Gemini Film Studios. The Precincts that created larger than life heroes and heroines since the 1940's, mesmerising millions with Technicolor dreams have now been transformed to house the theatre of life in its private and public spaces. The hotel creates a unique story of textures, surfaces, shadow and light inspired by film and performance in its various forms.
The drama within is boldly stated by the urban landscape that creates the story of textures, surfaces, shadow and light. A flamboyant and deep curved wall shelters and protects you as you enter the hotel. A traditional welcome with giant lotuses is interpreted with modernity by artist Hemi Bawa.
The dramatic entry leads to an atrium that is breath-taking in its simplicity. Pale cream limestone, aqua leather and chocolatey velvets create an oasis from the chaos of the city. The multi-layered lobby echoes theatre and performance stages inviting one to take part in the drama or observe from a quiet corner. At night the atrium lobby becomes an interactive space with projected images, light and sound, echoing the past life of its location.
A huge granite arc floats on glass to form the reception, becoming the nerve centre for all the backstage work in the hotel. The wall of light on the grand staircase, is our modern homage to walls of traditional deepams that light temples and homes across India.

The Guludo Eco-Resort | Quirimbas National Park | Mozambique | Kilburn and Nightingale
The Guludo eco-resort is located within the newly established Quirimbas National Park. The project aims to bring together high class tourist facilities and ecological concerns within a development agenda. Undertaken in consultation with the local community, a portion of the profits will be ploughed back into the village and district.
The resort is arranged as a series of small-scale buildings strung out along a path in the manner of a traditional village. A central 'hub' consists of the main public buildings sited around an open courtyard, with a covered dining area overlooking the sea. Guests are accommodated in independent bandas arranged north and south of the 'hub' facing directly onto the beach. The buildings are built using largely local techniques, drawing on local skills and labour, and developed and adapted as necessary to suit the particular form and requirements of the individual buildings. A key element of the design is the use of sustainable energy sources - solar power and heating, methane gas production, compost toilets, and the buildings are designed to maximise natural ventilation and shading. It is intended that the standard of design, construction, and ecological and developmental responsibility of Guludo eco-resort will be of the highest quality. The resort should be a model for future developments and should be capable of being audited against international standards.....more from Kilburn & Nightingale

Design Hotel In Toronto | The Drake Hotel Design By 3rd Uncle Design
The Drake Hotel
Starting with the cultural vision of the owner in 2002, to create a unique experience that explores the relationship between Hospitality, Culture and Community, a creative team of extraordinarily talented professionals and artisans was assembled, including 3rd Uncle Design, an award winning Toronto based design firm. The design process engaged the history of the Drake and its neighbourhood, as recorded in the fabric of the building. The goal was for The Drake to provide those that walked through its doors with a unique, storied experience. At the same time, the Drake would be grounded in providing its guests with world class service and attention in an environment that paid homage to exceptional and timeless design. In 2007, designers were yet again commissioned to re-imagine the Drake’s Lounge and Dining Room back to its 1940s golden age roots. The new look embraces the elegance, decadence and dignity of a special moment in time with leather booths, green leather banquettes, marble and brass fixtures, custom designed chandeliers and commissioned murals. Key to the redesign was Room 222, a Private Dining Room just on the edge of the action. Capturing the exclusivity and glamour of the Hollywood golden age, Room 222 features mid-century reproduction swivel chairs, amber teak wood mouldings, marble and glass finishes and a lush, Drake-designed, 20-foot mural spanning its length.
Hotel San Jose | Austin,Texas | Lake-Flato
A 1930s motor hotel in an eclectic district of South Austin was transformed from low-rent lodging to a hip, modern destination. Rooms in the existing three buildings were restructured, and a new 16-room building was added in the former parking lot to create a central courtyard. This communal outdoor space serves as an outdoor lobby, lounge and pool area. Architectural details, such as tile shed roofs, parabolic arches, arbors and porches, were repeated throughout the complex. Gardens of native Texas plants tie the buildings together.
